Am setting up around 11 computers for a very small computer cafe shop, a provider is giving an adsl modem, how do i connect all 11 comps with a router and switch??? am new at this usually i just use a router at home but a switch i have has 16-ports, maybe for lan gaming/ communication through all 11, as well as internet.
Am reading some articles but coudn't figure out with alot of different opinions, should i connect the modem to the router then switch or something like that? or just directly connect it through a switch?? :%26gt; getting confused here

Using Without Router.
I think you have only 11 computers so you don't need any router only modem and switch will work good for you. First of all you check for your model is it LAN/Ethernet modem or not. If it is not an ethernet model then connect it and install it one any one computer. when that computer is well connected to internet. install proxy server on it. you can use winproxy or analogx proxy (free available from net). then setup your lan and do some configuration settings. Tools -%26gt; Internet Options -%26gt;Connection -%26gt; LAN Settings -%26gt; Click on use proxy server and enter IP address of internet machine and port number. Now restart and your internet is working on all conputers.
Another way, when you use Ethernet modem, connect adsl modem on switch and you have to configure your modem, suppose you have assign modem IP to 192.168.0.1. connect all computers to switch and assigning ip to 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.12. Now do some LAN Setting changes. double click on Locan area connection icon left side of computer clock. IP settings-%26gt; Properties. Default gateway -%26gt; ip of modem, 192.168.0.1 . Use DNS server -%26gt; ask for your ISP for DNS and Alternate DNS IP. save and close and reboot. your lan is ready for using internet. If you have further problem you can just contact to me.
