Let alone the entire internet and all its computers. Im talking really really basic consciousness here.

Even a tiny little baby mouse has a consciousness. Imagine a large supercomputer, perhaps even a PC? I do not necessarily mean self-awareness, just conscious awareness.

I seriously doubt computers of today have the capacity for conscious thought. However, its folly to think that its impossible. You could construct a computer modeled after the human brain. If you made an exact replica of a human brain using circuit boards and microchips, it would behave in exactly the same way. It would think like we think, process information in the same way our brains do.

However, this artificial brain would lack the ability to adapt to its environment, to form new connections-to learn.

I suppose the soul of the computer would be it's program or algorithm and there are such algorithm's designed for self awareness (e.g. Artificial Intelligence). This is very possible and most likely inevitable.
