How do I connect 2 computers together so I can share files with each other?

My desktop is connected directly to my wireless router. My laptop connects to the router wirelessly. I have no problem connecting to the internet with either my desktop or laptop. How do I get them to read each other so I can share files between the 2 computers. thank you
