How can I connect 2 computers in different rooms with the same broadband contract?house call
You can buy a router and hook up your modem to it. Then use ethernet wires or a wireless network card to hook your computers up. It's pretty easy actually.
I currently use a Linksys router, but there are many others such as belkin and netgear.

There is two major things you could do. You could by a Ethernet spliter at wal-mart and run a wire to both, or you could start a wireless network sharing your connection with anyone in your household unless you have a really bug house or if your wireless equipment is really crappy.
The easiest way, if you don't know anything about networking, is to go buy a broadband router from Walmart/Best Buy/Target or pretty much any other major retailer and follow the instructions inside.
Basically, you plug your broadband connection (cable or DSL) into the WAN port (the one off by itself on the back of the router) and then connect a network cable (it will come with one in the box, you'll have to pick up another one) from each PC into the unused ports in the back of the router. Most broadband routers are pre-configured so this type of setup will work "out of the box" with 90% of household internet connections.
You need a "router". They come wired version if you can run wires between the rooms, or wireless if you don't want to do that.
Most computers these days have a wired network port. If you want to go wireless, you'll need a wireless addon card for each computer.
Windows XP makes setup easy. More info:
