Hello there, I could sure use some help . I have Cox high speed internet and 2 desktops , 1 running XP and the Other Vista. I purchased an ASANTE FriendlyNET 10/100 Ethernet Switch. I can only get 1 of the computers to go on the internet, the other will say connected but will not go to the internet. I apologize for I am very new to this computer terminology but I would appreciate anyones help on this matter...Please chime in! Thank you in advance!

you will need a muli-port router. this will assign an internal ip address to each computer plugged in while only using one ip address from your isp

with that certain network switch, you have to setup ONE computer first hooking up the internet up through the USB. Then go and setup a network. set this computer as the option Other computers access internet through this one. Then you go share that internet connection. then go ahead and hook up the other computer. Once that one is hooked up, setup a network on it and when you get to the point where it gives you two options about connecting through residential gateway select the bottom option. Now you should be able to access internet on both computers.
You can NOT use a switch, you need a router.
