Yes it is the present and the future
Today's children need to be very familiar with computers since they will be working with them in pretty much any career they choose to pursue.
When I was in high school almost thirty years ago, we didn't really know what a computer was like until half way through high school. Now children as young as infants and primary (Australia) or elementary (for most other countries) level are using computers. My own children have a very sound understanding of computers and they're not even in high school yet.
We can't underestimate the importance of and necessity for computers in schools today. The sooner our children become familiar with them, the smoother their transition to higher education and employment.
YES. They're here to stay, so everyone should have a chance to learn how to use them if they don't have 1, 2, . . . 5 of the things at home. I think people need to learn to function without them first, but there's a point after which doing things the ''hard'' way loses some of its purpose.
